Diversity
In the 21st Century classroom, meeting the needs of all students has become more accessible than it ever has been before. Through the use of technology, the diverse student populations that we teach every day can be reached. Each student has the opportunity to have an educational experience that meets them where they are regardless of ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, special needs, etc. Technology allows for differentiation to happen and it impacts student learning.
Having the knowledge and ability to embrace diversity in the classroom is key to making a difference in students’ lives. As a technology leader, I can show students and teachers how they can make the technology work for them in their classrooms. This will provide the opportunity for teachers to have a greater impact on their students’ learning. Each student brings their own diversity into the classroom, which can be utilized and expressed in their own way. The power of technology can help the English Language Learner practice and improve their vocabulary. The power of technology can help the student with an Individualized Education Plan have aspects in class adapted for them. The power of technology can help the students with certain socio-economic status have access to educational tools that they may not have otherwise. The power of technology is endless and needs to be embraced. As a technology leader, I will continue to pave the way for more technology to impact the diversity our schools bring.
Within the Instructional Technology Graduate Program at Kennesaw State University, I had the opportunity to participate in different experiences that allowed me to see the importance of technology to diverse learners. The list below highlights five of these significant learning experiences.
