Reflection:
The Field Experiences shaped my experiences during the Instructional Technology Graduate Program at Kennesaw State University. These gave me an opportunity to grow and develop into the technology leader I am today. I was able to take on new roles and responsibilities and accomplish many goals. In particular, the Technology Workshop gave me experience as a technology coach. I planned, created, and implemented a Kahoot Technology Workshop for new teachers at Creekview High School. During this workshop, I was able to implement new strategies and ways to incorporate Kahoot into the new teachers’ classrooms. The workshop lasted 1-hour and covered interactive elements. The field experience addressed PSC and ISTE standards as well.
Standard 6.3, Field Experiences provided me the opportunity to engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. The Technology Workshop along with the other field experiences allowed me to experience different scenarios and situations that a technology leader/coach would be in. It gave me a wide range of skills that I will continue to apply in the field. Through these experiences, I was able to synthesize and apply content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to grow and develop. The Technology Workshop combined several of these features into the workshop to foster growth mindset and assist with the new teachers at our school. During the implementation, the teachers were able to practice and have followed up support with Kahoot to ensure that they were comfortable enough to use it in their classroom.
Completing the Field Experiences allowed me to flourish as a technology leader at my school. I have learned how to collect data and assess the school and district’s plans. I also learned how to plan, create, and implement a technology workshop to better improve our technology use in the classroom. To further improve this artifact, I would like to be more available to our teachers and have more opportunities to share what I have learned and observe their classes to help and learn from them. I believe that this would shift the culture of the school to encourage more collaboration amongst teachers.
This artifact impacts school improvement and faculty development. Through the variety of different field experiences, I was able to assess the school’s technology usage and plans, influence the school improvement plan (SIP), and make recommendations that are passed such as the technology committee. I hosted a couple of workshops like the Technology Workshop to improve teachers technology usage in their classroom and to teach them new skills and web tools that they have utilized. By working with the teachers and administration, I have become more of a technology leader at Creekview High School. By working with all of the stakeholders, we have been able to strengthen and improve our technology use in the classroom, which in turn improved classroom instruction and student achievement.
