Reflection:
The Professional Learning Current Reality and GSAPS were created to address the current situation at Creekview High School through the use of research and interviews from the principal, School Improvement Plan (SIP), and Cherokee County School District (CCSD) 3-year Strategic Plan. I completed this assignment to provide insight into our administration on strengths and areas of improvement along with potential recommendations. The Professional Learning Current Reality and GSAPS provide a snapshot of the school that can be used to improve the school in specific areas that it addresses.
Standard 5.3, Program Evaluation provided me the opportunity to design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. Through the Professional Learning Current Reality and GSAPS, I was able to design and implement a comprehensive evaluation of the school by examining the following topics Creekview’s vision, needs assessment, professional learning, alignment to school improvement goals, funding and incentives, diversity, collaboration, and evaluation. Within the artifact, I detail each topic with what our school currently offers and provide different perspectives from stakeholders and documents such as the SIP that guide what the school does. I addressed the effectiveness of deepening teacher content knowledge and improving teacher pedagogical skills as I explained professional development opportunities, TKES Evaluations, and Collaboration opportunities- PLC. Student Learning was also explained in terms of how Creekview addresses diversity as well as in the professional development as there are options that pertain to improving student learning. I shared my findings with our administrators, so they would be able to see a snapshot as to how the school is performing in a variety of areas.
Completing the Professional Learning Current Reality and GSAPS allowed me to compile information in one place to give an overview of Creekview High School and how the school is meeting the SIP and CCSD 3-year Strategic Plan. I learned how to compose a report to include all stakeholders and create a meaningful document that can be used to inform decisions that the school makes. By completing this assignment, I was able to provide my administration valuable information for our school to address with their stakeholders. To further improve this project, I would like to have surveyed the teacher population to give me more insight into their perspective. I believe that this would allow me to strengthen the topics I addressed in the paper.
This artifact impacts school improvement. The Professional Learning Current Reality and GSAPS gave administrators a starting point for future school improvement plans. The information collected in this report provides an in-depth look at our school and addresses some of the gaps we are experiencing. The impact can be assessed through the development of the SIP for the following year. Some of the gaps were addressed in goals and the creation of new committees such as the Technology Committee and having goals that relate to implementing more technology into the classrooms.
