The shared vision paper was constructed with careful attention to all stakeholders involved at Creekview High School. In developing the shared vision paper, the teachers and administrators at Creekview completed a Technology Assessment Survey. The Technology Assessment Survey provides the opportunity to gain feedback from the teachers to share with the principal and other stakeholders. I held meetings with the administration to discuss the results and shared the results with the technology specialists at our school. We collaborated to determine our shared vision for the future of Creekview. I also discussed some possible options that should be considered to meet the shared vision of our school.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision establishes the expectations for development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. The artifact demonstrated my ability to facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision at Creekview. I developed a survey for teachers and administrators to take to see where the gaps and strengths are at our school and what they would like to see for Creekview. The questions on this survey are based on 21st-century skills that students are expected to know, the ISTE standards, and the expectation from administration and district. According to the article “Why Do We Need Technology Integration (2007), students improve their learning process, engagement, and outcomes. During the developmental stages of the shared vision, I facilitated the data collection by discussing with our district personnel the vision of the district and served on the district-level technology committee to gain further information to use within the shared vision. I initiated the discussion with our school administration as to where we are currently as a school and the future of the school. This assisted me in the development of questions for the teacher survey. After collecting the information, I compiled the results to our administration to show them some opportunities that we need to take advantage of to get our school to perform to the best of its ability. During the meeting, we discussed the recommendations based on research supported strategies that I provided in the shared vision. We took the shared vision and shared it with the technology specialists. Once we shared it with the technology specialists and administration the implementation process began. During this phase, we took the results and spent time outlining how Creekview will improve in these areas. The implementation of the shared vision in an on-going process. Immediately following the shared vision discussion, I worked with Creekview to establish the first technology committee to continue this conversation of the vision of technology at our school and assisting in meeting our goals. I serve on this committee as well. In sharing with the instructional technology personnel, they are implementing the technology topics in the professional development courses that we have. The feedback from teachers and administrators transformed Creekview’s training and opportunities to pilot certain technology programs. The results of the implementation can be seen at all level and by all stakeholders, as students and parents are using the learning management system (LMS) effectively as the teachers are increasing their technology use in the classroom to improve their instructional strategies to exceed and meet the expectations of Creekview.
Completing the Shared Vision was an eye-opening experience to examine all of the moving part and initiatives that are occurring at the district level and the high school level and see how that transpires inside the classroom to teachers, parents, and students. I learned how to appropriately survey the teachers and give them a platform for sharing where they are in reaching these initiatives. This gave me the opportunity to expand our school’s use of technology and establish and serve on a committee that is working towards continuing to improve our technology usage and implementation at Creekview. To further improve this shared vision, I would like to have a committee established at the end of the school year that works towards developing the next year’s school improvement plan (SIP) to full take the shared visions of both the district and the school level initiation and put attainable action steps for teachers and administrations so that it would be easier to track our progress each school year. I believe that this would be an excellent use of the shared vision so that we can continue to implement more technology into the classroom and expand beyond our four walls.
This artifact impacts school improvement and faculty development. The shared vision created an opportunity to have conversations about how to implement more technology in the classrooms based on research, school improvement plan, and district initiatives. Prior to the shared vision, there seemed to be a disconnected from the teachers to the administrators to the district level. Now, there is a streamlined vision of what is expected at all levels and there is proper support for teachers who need additional help to get them on board and comfortable implementing strategies in the classroom. Creekview established a Technology Committee that meets to keep this process streamlined and have on-going conversations about what is happening in all areas. The impact is continuous and can be seen in the school improvement plan that now included technology goals. Teachers have more opportunities to acquire new technology skills with our professional development that is held bi-monthly. This can be measured using the TKES platform and seeing the technology engagement that teachers are using with their students.
