The SIP Plan/Technology Plan analysis examined a variety of resources that our school and district has in place in terms of technology. Through this analysis, I was able to assess the use of technology strategic plans and address the strengths and weaknesses that we have. I attended the district’s technology committee’s meeting to gather more information about how technology at the district level was being addressed and the five-year plan for technology. During the analysis process, I met with Creekview’s principal to discuss the current technology state especially in terms of the school improvement plan (SIP). Through the meeting with the principal and the district level technology committee meeting, I was able to assess the implementation, technology equity, and level in which technology was incorporated. This allowed me the opportunity to address the weaknesses that our SIP has to then address these with our administration and technology committee team.
Standard 1.2 establishes the expectations for design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. This artifact demonstrated my ability to design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plan in Creekview’s SIP. The SIP/Technology Plan analysis provided me the opportunity to design a technology plan that will be incorporated into the SIP for the upcoming school year. The process began as I collected information from the district and school level about technology implementation. I served on and attended the district’s technology committee meeting to provide information and to learn more about the five-year technology plan that our district is rolling out. The information that I collected assisted me in the development of our SIP Plan at Creekview. I then analyzed our current SIP and compared it to the initiatives and goals of the district’s technology plan. From this comparison, I communicated the differences and areas that need to be addressed with our principal. Through this discussion, we were able to determine areas in which we needed to target for both short-term and long-term goals for our school. The implementation of the analysis was tasked to the administrative team and to the school’s technology committee. I communicated with the technology committee in which I serve on the analysis of the district and school’s technology plan and the weaknesses that our school’s SIP has in terms of technology. As a committee, we evaluated the options that we had to determine the short and long-term goals of technology in the school after considering the initiatives from the district and expectations at the school level. As we developed our course of action, I proposed recommendations for our future SIP and from there we met to discuss how progress would be evaluated at Creekview with the administrators and technology committee. The implementation can be observed in the design of the following school year’s SIP and through the initiatives that we are implementing through the technology committee such as encouraging teachers to use more technology in the classroom and supporting them.
Completing the SIP/Technology Plan analysis provided the opportunity to critically assess the technology goals and initiatives from the district and how that translates to the school level. It allowed the opportunity to make changes that will progress our school to the implementation of more technology. According to Eric Sheninger, “change [that] the schools need are dependent on the ability and desire of leaders to honor specific skills, behaviors, and characteristics associated with technology” and that is what this artifact provides the opportunity to do (Sheninger, 2014, p. 42). By completing this artifact I learned the importance of taking the district’s initiatives and implementing them into the SIP so all teachers are held accountable it also informs all stakeholders of the effort that our school is making in implementing and increasing our technology use for all students that Creekview serves. By sharing these goals with the teachers, they can work towards accomplishing them by placing them as goals in their Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES), which will allow administrators to assess the ability and improve our school. This process taught me how to effectively assess the technology strategic plan at our school and take action steps in providing solutions and recommendations that are implemented in future SIP. To further improve the SIP/Technology Plan analysis, I would have liked to have seen more immediate changes in implementations rather than waiting until the following year’s SIP. Yes, we established short terms goals, however, they were to be implemented the following year. I would also like to have seen a discussion between Creekview and the district’s technology committee to discuss the technology situation at our school considering we are not 1:1 yet and our network is not consistently working and how Creekview can work to meet the initiatives and goals of the district and provide more information to the district at what Creekview is experiencing at the high school level with technology use.
This artifact impacts school improvement. The SIP/Technology Plan analysis created an opportunity to discuss the disconnect between the district’s technology plan and the SIP. Through this analysis, the SIP has been reviewed and adjusted for the next school year. It includes realistic short term and long-term technology goals to meet the needs of all students. This is a huge improvement considering our previous SIP did not include technology goals. Now all stakeholders see how teachers and administrators are working towards increasing our technology use and strategies in the classroom. The impact can be seen in the use of the technology committee meeting that we have at our school to continue to explore the initiatives and implement of technology in the school. Our teachers now have TKES goals that are centered around the implementation of technology in their classroom and the increased use of computer lab space and laptop usage. Administrators can track the progress of these goals using the TKES platform.
