Reflection:
The Individual Teacher Technology Assessment was completed to assess one teacher’s needs on how to incorporate Kahoot in her classroom. The teacher completed a LoTi Questionnaire to provide me some information on her comfortability level with technology and some general technology questions to determine what tools we would use and what she needs assistance with. I created this survey as well as the needs assessment so that the teacher and I could collaborate on the type of technology training needs and coaching.
Standard 5.1, Needs Assessment provided me the opportunity to conduct needs assessments to determine school-wide, faculty, grade-level, and subject area strengths and weaknesses to inform the content and delivery of technology-based professional learning programs. I conducted a needs assessment with one of the teachers at Creekview High Schools. I started by having the teacher complete a LoTi questionnaire that I created to gather some data. After the survey, we spent some time working together and discussing the use of technology, what their strengths and weaknesses were, and her expectations for the coaching sessions. From this information, I was able to determine where the teacher was in terms of use and comfortability with technology to inform the content and delivery of technology-based professional learning programs. We determined that the technology tool Kahoot would be the best tools that she could utilize in the classes and it would engage the students. This would provide the opportunity to incorporate more technology into the classroom. Once the needs assessment was complete we then went into the coaching sessions.
Completing the Individual Teacher Technology Assessment allowed me to learn how to conduct a needs assessment and use it to inform technology-based professional learning programs. Through this experience, I learned the importance of using a needs assessment. From the creation of the LoTi Questionnaire to the meetings, and collaborations, I was able to appropriately assess the needs of the teacher to help her in future coaching sessions. To further improve this needs assessment, I would like to include more teachers in the process. I believe that there are other teachers who could have benefited from this experience. This would provide me the opportunity to increase our faculty’s technology usage in the classroom.
This artifact impacts faculty development. Through the Individual Teacher Technology Assessment, the teacher’s needs were expressed and a plan was created to help increase the technology use in her classroom. The impact can be assessed in the coaching sessions that followed the needs assessment. After the sessions, the teacher began implementing Kahoot into the classroom and her comfortability with technology improved.
